Amazon.com Inc. plans to eliminate roughly 14,000 corporate jobs just months after Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy warned that AI will shrink the company’s workforce.

In a note to employees, the retail giant pointed to AI, calling it the most "transformative technology we've seen since the Internet."

Amazon has laid off 14,000 more of its corporate workers as it continues implementing AI.

But the company’s memo announcing the layoffs reiterated Jassy’s belief that AI is bound to transform the workplace. “We need to remember is that the world is changing quickly,” the memo says, adding that “we’re convinced” that a leaner workforce is the key to leading in the AI era.

Amazon will eliminate 14,000 corporate positions through internal restructuring, joining over 200 tech companies that cut 98,000 jobs this year.
