Played the same as others as a kid (Adventure, Zork, Suspended, etc.) and thought I was the smartest kid in the world because I saw the through-link between these and the "Choose Your Own Adventure" ...
As a GenXer who grew up in the 80s, Infocom games were a big part of my gaming back then. I've managed to keep one eye on the competitions and try new games out on occasion. The quality is astounding!
