Israel decided to carry out strikes in Gaza because of an attack on Israel Defense Forces troops in the IDF-controlled area of Gaza, east of the yellow line, on Tuesday, and for "violating the agreement," to return the remains of all the dead hostages still being held in Gaza, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement Tuesday.

In Haiti, 25 people have died after a river burst its banks during Hurricane Melissa. The storm hit Jamaica yesterday, leaving 77% of the island without power. This morning, it swept across Cuba. The extent of the damage across the Caribbean is not yet known.

The storm was massive, its wind field reaching 1,100 miles in diameter, making it the largest Atlantic storm on record. Gusts surpassed 60 mph in the D.C. area, toppling trees and wires and cutting power to several hundred thousand customers.
