There’s a great 4x4 route that connects the R62 to the Baviaanskloof. Its official name is the Rus en Vrede Trail. In fair weather it’s nothing more than a Grade 2, but this can escalate in heavy rain. Isolation, wild mountain scenery and proteas will be your only companions. It takes about 6 hours to complete the route. It can be driven in either direction. Permits available at the Doringkraal farm.
